Swedish / IKEA Meatballs Recipe Official
IKEA meatballs at home
The Swedish Ikea meatballs are very popular all over the world, for no other reason than that this dish is one of the favorites in the restaurants of the IKEA supermarket chain. Of course, one can ponder how “Swedish” the meatballs on offer there are, but one thing is certain: this meatball-like – but in many ways very different – meatball is one of the iconic recipes of Swedish cuisine and is regularly prepared and eaten in Sweden.
As with all national dishes, there is perhaps no one true version. However, here I present a Swedish meatball recipe that not only tastes incredibly similar to IKEA meatballs, but is also very tasty!
Ingredients:
Meatballs:
- 800 g beef-pork mixed mince
- 1 onion
- 1 clove of garlic
- 5 tbsp milk
- 100 g breadcrumbs
- salt & pepper
- 1 egg
- oil for frying
Sauce:
- 40 g butter
- 40 g all-purpose flour
- 400 ml broth or meat soup
- 150 ml heavy cream
- 2 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp dijon mustard
- salt & pepper
Steps:
- Mix the minced meat with the finely chopped onion, crushed garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, salt and ground black pepper in a bowl. Shape the mixture into small round balls.
- Heat some oil in a pan over a medium heat and fry the meatballs well on all sides. Remove, set aside and keep the meatballs warm.
- Melt the butter in the remaining fat in the pan. Add the flour and stir for 2 minutes. Pour in the stock and cream. Add soy sauce, mustard, salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer and allow the sauce to thicken.
- Serve your IKEA meatballs with this sauce, mashed potatoes and lingonberry jam to taste. Enjoy your meal!
