Green or string bean casserole - one of Hungarian casseroles
Casseroles are very popular in Hungary. Housewives make this or a similar dish from almost any vegetable. Whether it’s green beans, cauliflower, peas or potatoes, you can make a layered dish out of anything. As a rule, minced meat ragout, sour cream or cheese can’t be missing in a casserole. Now we show you one of classical: the string bean casserole.
Ingredients:
1000 g yellow (or string green) bean
700 g minced pork
1 medium onion
2-3 cloves of garlic
200 g rice
500 g sour cream
300 g grated cheese
salt&pepper, sweet paprika powder, parsley
3 tbsp cooking oil
a little butter and breadcrumbs
Steps:
Boil the beans in salted water until tender. Drain and set aside.
Fry the finely chopped onion in cooking oil for 5 minutes. Add the minced pork, increase the heat a little and cook until the meat turns white. Season with salt, pepper and paprika. Add the crushed garlic and chopped parsley and cook for another minute.
Butter a deep baking dish and sprinkle with breadcrumbs.
Layer the ingredients: half the rice, half the meat ragout, half the beans, half the sour cream and half the grated cheese. Repeat these layers one more time.
Bake at 200°C (390°F) for 30-35 minutes.
Allow the bean casserole to cool slightly, slice and enjoy!
