Desserts are popular among Hungarians. And they are usually very well made. This cottage cheese pie with dill is a popular meal among Hungarian households. Simple, filling, and ideal for a lunch with for example a soup. Makee it with us using this recipe!
Ingredients:
dough:
400 g all-purpose flour
1 egg
200 ml milk
4 g dry yeast
1 tbsp sugar
50 g butter
salt
The cream:
500 g Cottage (or) Farmer cheese (or Ricotta)
2 eggs
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp vanilla sugar or extract
1 bunch of dill leaves
salt
To the top:
1 egg yolk
1 tbsp sour cream
Steps:
Mix the lukewarm milk with the yeast and sugar. Leave the yeast to activate for 10 minutes.
Mix the sifted flour with an egg, the soft butter, a pinch of salt and the risen yeast mixture. Knead until a firm and springy dough forms. Sprinkle the dough with a little flour, cover and leave to rise for 30 minutes.
Roll out the dough to the size of a baking tray (~14×8″/35×20 cm) and place it on the tray.
Mix the cottage cheese with eggs, sugar, vanilla sugar, breadcrumbs, a bunch of finely chopped dill and salt to taste. Spread this mixture evenly over the dough. Bake the pastry at 180°C (350°F) for 40 minutes.
Brush the hot surface of pie with the egg yolk and sour cream mixture and put it back in the oven. Bake for a further 10 minutes.
