An excellent recipe for Irish cream liqueur that sounds just like the original Baileys! If you don’t want to buy expensive liqueur and want to enjoy the pleasure of making it yourself, nothing stands in your way!
The history of the Baileys
The special drink is the result of twentieth-century technology that made it possible to mix cream and whiskey. The success story of Baileys began in 1974, when the Irish representative of the largest spirits company was unable to do anything with its stagnant whiskey stocks. The secret to Baileys lies not only in a technical marvel that allows the bottle’s all-natural contents—Irish whiskey, fresh cream, cocoa, coffee, and vanilla—to prove their combination over time without separating or precipitating the cream, but also in the magic of the new flavor.
Quality ingredients
The cream used to make it is the freshest, special dairy product with twice the fat content of household creams, and the Irish whiskey used to make it is aged for at least three years in American bourbon oak barrels. It is incredible that over 50,000 cows graze in Ireland nowadays in order to produce the proper quantity of milk needed to make the country’s liqueur! The fact that the freshly made cream is used for Baileys within two hours is another aspect of the perfection and tradition.

The name's genesis
The London restaurant Bailey’s is the inspiration behind the name of the cream liqueur Bailey’s. The creators of the cream liqueur wanted it to symbolize the origins of both Great Britain and Ireland.
Make your own Baileys
Although you probably don’t have a cow specifically bred for making Baileys at home, you should have the courage to try making it. Try to buy heavy cream and make strong, high-quality coffee which you will enjoy drinking anyway. Although the original recipe calls for cocoa as well, in theory, I don’t notice a difference between it and the coffee-based version. Regarding whiskey, I consistently use the variety that I enjoy. Even though homemade Baileys should theoretically never go bad, I like to age this amazing beverage in the refrigerator just to be sure. The family adores homemade Baileys, so we can’t celebrate Christmas without them! Create it on your own!
